Mindfulness in Education

A lot of schools are now having their staff trained in Mindfulness to help embed this life skill into the curriculum.

Children are naturally mindful and live mainly in the moment.  As they get older they face stress and pressure from a lot of angles.  Mindfulness activities and development in schools has been proven to improve concentration, behaviour and relationships.

Developing mindfulness helps children strengthen their resilience to stressful situations or emotions.  It shows them how to observe thoughts and not to react to them straight away.  It teaches them how other people only operate from their own conscious level and how not to take things personally.  It teaches them gratitude and how not to be attached to the material.

It also improves:

  • concentration
  • confidence
  • self esteem
  • faster recovery from physical illness
  • brain growth
  • creative and holistic thinking
  • Coping
  • Reactivity
  • Identifying and processing emotions

More importantly it puts children in touch with their most natural condition which is free, expressive, cooperative, loving and peaceful. Meditation is one of the most valuable things a child can be encouraged to think.  Our world desperately needs this.
